Once the subclavian vein merges with the internal jugular vein, the brachiocephalic vein is formed. The brachiocephalic vein subsequently drains into the SVC. WebDistal obstruction of ophthalmic venous drainage can be caused by orbital masses or inflammatory disease leading to enlargement of the orbital contents and extraorbital lesions such as cavernous sinus thrombosis. Extraorbital vascular abnorma lity, such as carotid–cavernous fistula, can lead to retrograde flow through the ophthalmic veins.
