Fish olfactory bulb
WebAbstract. Recent developments in the functional anatomy and physiology of the fish olfactory system reveal three parallel pathways from the sensory epithelium, via the olfactory bulb to the telencephalon. There are three morphological types of sensory neurones spread in a seemingly overlapping arrangement in the olfactory epithelium. WebJun 1, 2007 · The fish olfactory system is extremely sensitive to bile acids. The olfactory threshold is in the order of picomolar concentrations (Døving et al., 1980). Neurones in the dorso-medial part of the olfactory bulb of the crucian carp respond to bile salts and can distinguish between glycocholic acid and the glycolithocholic acid.
