WebBenign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) is the nonmalignant enlargement of the prostate gland that is caused by an increase in volume of epithelial (top layer of tissue that line cavities and surfaces of the body) and stromal (connective tissue) cells. WebOnce the prostate is examined in its entirety in this plane the probe is turned 90degrees in a sagittal plane. Enlarged prostate refers to a disease in which the prostate gland becomes larger than normal. As the urethra, the tube that carries the urine is blocked due to enlarged prostate, most of the symptoms stem from this condition.
