Webb28 juni 2003 · ROCK HUGGER. With the pitman arm that long it makes the steering quicker and you wont get full rotation out of the box. The 7" pitman arm is why you need the 4.25 turn box. If you ran a 3 turn box with a shorter pitman arm you steering would be about the same as you have now but you would use more rotation of the box. WebbStep 6. Line up the replacement pitman arm on the gear according to the marked line and press it into place. Install the nut and tighten it to specifications -- generally this is 184 foot-pounds on clamp-type pitman arms, and 125 foot-pounds if it is secured by a nut.

Webb14 juni 2001 · I have in the garage a Manual steering box, and a PS steering box, both from a '65/'66 V8, and both have the original pitman arms on them. I compared the arms, and the shape is identical, I just didn't know if the "holes" in the ends of the pitman arm was different. I guess I will just keep the pitman amr on the '66 that is there now. Webb17 juli 2010 · Heat the arm (not the shaft) thoroughly and apply constant pressure with the puller and it will come off so easy you'll wonder why you didn't try this first. Also, with heat, you won't need to torque down on the puller to the point that it breaks. Use the proper amount of heat and it will be off in 5 minutes.

Pitman arm removal can be very difficult, but it's not at all complicated. The problem is that they are usually stuck on the shaft tighter than an impacted wisdom tooth.
